"Marseel Bahnan is the Student Worker Sports Information Director(SID) for Cuyamaca College Athletics and currently serves as President of the Associated Student Government (ASG). She is also Cuyamaca College’s student delegate, proudly representing her peers at the regional level.
Originally from Baghdad, Iraq, Marseel moved to the United States at the age of eight and has lived in Turkey, Michigan, and Arizona before making San Diego her home. A graduate of Paul K. Cousino High School in Michigan, she is pursuing a degree in Psychology with plans to earn a master’s in Sports Psychology. Athletics has played a major role in her journey—through Cuyamaca’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams, she found her footing, guidance, and the community that continues to inspire her involvement on campus.
Passionate about both mental health and athletics, Marseel enjoys advocating for students and building stronger connections within the college community. Outside of her academic, athletic, and leadership roles, she expresses her creativity through nail art, a unique sense of style, and drawing. She also enjoys watching anime and spending time with animals—especially cats."
Marseel says she hopes to leave Cuyamaca and everyone she has met better, and to inspire others—since she is passionate about life and the challenges that come with it.
Quote she would like to share:
“If you are feeling disheartened, that you are somehow not enough, set your heart ablaze. Dry your eyes and look ahead. You may feel like you are digging your heels in, but the flow of time waits for no one. It won’t patiently stand by as you grieve.” — Kyojuro Rengoku, Demon Slayer
