Belinda Diaz • Guard • Freshman • #11
Team Captain, Business Major
Rooted in San Diego’s Skyline community, Belinda Diaz enters her freshman year at Cuyamaca already wearing the captain’s band evidence of how she leads: clear voice, fast pace, steady poise. A four-year varsity standout at Morse High School and a rare multi-sport competitor (volleyball, flag football, lacrosse), Diaz found basketball just before her freshman year during the COVID era and never looked back. What began as a challenge became her compass, shaping a competitor who treats every setback as a lesson and every practice as a standard.
On the floor, Diaz is a tempo-setter and pressure defender who organizes the Coyotes with change-of-speed, clean handles, and the extra pass that turns good shots into great ones. She wears No. 11 in honor of her older brother and as a nod to Kyrie Irving's creativity mirrored in her shiftiness and feel for elevating teammates. She carries a mantra from Coach Brian - " Defense wins championships."
Grounded by gratitude, Diaz credits her parents’ sacrifices, her coaches’ belief, and her teammates’ loyalty through every high and low. A business major with plans to transfer, she owns the details o film, communication, and practice tempo as a freshman captain while building a legacy of pride, passion, and purpose for Cuyamaca Women's Basketball.
