Marseel Bahnan Earns All-State Second Team in Historic Cross Country Season

El Cajon,

Sophomore standout Marseel Bahnan of Cuyamaca College capped a historic 2025 season by finishing 18th overall at the CCCAA State Championships in Fresno, earning All-State Second Team recognition and becoming the third-fastest female runner in Cuyamaca cross country history. Remarkably, Bahnan did not even qualify for State last year, making her performance this season a major breakthrough. She crossed the line in 18:51.7, breaking her personal record and demonstrating extraordinary growth.

Season Highlights

  • Cuyamaca Cross Country Kick-Off: 6th — 14:39 PR (2 miles)

  • Golden West Central Park Classic: 12th — 20:26.8 PR

  • UC Riverside Invitational: 107th — 19:28.5 PR

  • PCAC Championships: 3rd — 20:50

  • 3C2A SoCal Championships: 15th — 19:11 PR (qualified for State)

  • CCCAA State Championships: 18th — 18:51.7 PR (All-State Second Team)

A Season Fueled by Mindset and Support

Before the State race, Bahnan relied on the guidance of two spiritual mentors who have supported her since freshman year. She also used motivational reminders to stay focused: writing "dig deep" on her palm — advice from Natos to her and her teammates — and "set your heart ablaze" on her arm, a favorite quote from Demon Slayer.

Reflecting on her performance, Bahnan said, "I didn't think I could run as hard as this — even harder than two weeks ago when I set another 20-second PR. This is just the beginning, and I'm so excited to see where I, my support system, and my coaches take me. Juco is the way."

Historic Achievement

By placing 18th at State, Bahnan not only earned All-State Second Team honors but also cemented herself as one of the fastest women in Cuyamaca cross country history. Her season reflects dedication, perseverance, and a championship mindset under the guidance of Coaches Thom Hunt and Tim Seaman.

Cuyamaca College celebrates Bahnan's accomplishments and looks forward to her continued success both on and off the cross country course.
