The Lady Coyotes book their tickets for the prenultimate event that leads to the 2024 California Community College State Track & Field Championship to be held May 17-18 at Saddleback College. Deja Thomas having already cemented herself in the Cuyamaca College record books in capturing the school 400m record earlier in the season, followed up her performaces with qualifying times in both the 200m (25.14) and 400m (57.81). Deja will also do her duty on both qualifying relays on Friday's finals.

Brinley Campbell finally captures a title at Cuyamaca. This young lady continues to round into championship shape. Her second best all-time mark in the 100m hurdles at the PCAC Championships was verified with a 14.48 time with a -.8 wind in her face to record the second fastest mark on the day as she won her heat in impressive style. However, it was the 400m hurdles where she eclipsed the former record to place her name at the top of the all-time best to ever run the one-lap with hurdle race. Her time in the 400m hurdles shaved nearly two-seconds off her season best. Her time of 65.92 ranked fourth best on the day and in a great position to punch her ticket to state in one if not both races.

Other standout performances came from Rianna Romasoc in the polevault where she needed to jump only to qualify and save the best for next Friday's finals which she did. Maya Hill ran one of the gutsiest runs on the day, May ran smart and stayed with the lead back and relied on her kick to place herself in the finals. Maya's time of 2:23.06 was one of her best of the year and puts her in position for a challenge at earning her ride to state. Vivianna Cuadras continued to learn and thrive in her new event the 400m hurdles. Having an extensive 400m flat background, her hurdling technique continues to improve to allow her flat speed to propel her forward in the hurdle event. Mar'azanae Townsend qualified in the women's high jump for Friday. Mar'azanae failed to qualify in her other events, 100m, L.J. and T.J. but will focus her efforts in the high jump and be available for the relays if needed.

SoCal Regional Finals continue Friday May 10th at Cerritos College. Field events start at 1:00pm with running events starting at 2:00pm.
